A weekend in Upstate South Carolina can take you from downtown streets to small-town favorites to Blue Ridge Mountain views, all without venturing too far from Greenville Gateway RV Living.
Spend Friday evening in Downtown Greenville, make Saturday a day in Travelers Rest, and head for the mountains on Sunday. When you’re staying for a few weeks, a few months, or longer, there’s no rush to see it all at once.
Consider this three-day itinerary a starting point for getting to know some of the local favorites around Greenville Gateway.
Friday Evening: Dinner and a Walk in Downtown Greenville
Once the workweek wraps up, start your weekend in Downtown Greenville. Main Street, Falls Park, the Reedy River, and plenty of restaurants and locally owned businesses make it easy to fit dinner and a little time outside into a Friday evening.
Start With Dinner
The Commons is a great choice for a more casual dinner, with several local food options in one spot and a setting along the Reedy River.
For a sit-down dinner closer to Falls Park, try Jianna, a modern Italian restaurant overlooking the park. House-made pasta and freshly shucked oysters are among the specialties, and its location puts you right where you want to be for the next stop on your evening itinerary.
Once dinner is finished, there’s no need to call it a night. Downtown Greenville is especially enjoyable on foot, and Falls Park on the Reedy makes a natural next stop for an evening stroll.
Walk Through Falls Park on the Reedy
Make your way into Falls Park on the Reedy, where walking paths wind through landscaped gardens and along the Reedy River. Stop for a view of the waterfalls and cross the iconic Liberty Bridge, which offers one of Downtown Greenville’s most recognizable views.
An evening visit is especially nice as temperatures begin to cool and the lights come on throughout downtown.
Greenville Gateway Local Tip: Don’t make the Liberty Bridge your turnaround point. Take a little extra time to follow the paths below the bridge, where you can see the falls from a different perspective and find quieter spots to sit along the Reedy River.
Finish the Evening on Main Street
Before heading back to Greenville Gateway, spend a little more time walking Main Street. Browse one of the independent shops or bookstores, or stop at Kilwins for something sweet.
Then make your way back to Fountain Inn and settle in for the evening before Saturday’s plans begin.

Saturday: Spend the Day in Travelers Rest
On Saturday, head north to Travelers Rest, a small Upstate South Carolina town known for its local restaurants, shops, and connection to the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
Breakfast can easily turn into a full day here, and many of the stops are close enough together that you won’t need an overly complicated plan.
Begin With Breakfast at Tandem
Start the morning at Tandem Creperie & Coffeehouse, where sweet and savory crepes pair well with a cup of coffee.
After breakfast, take some time to browse Main Street before moving on to the rest of your day. Stop into TR Makers Co. for locally made goods and unique gifts, sample olive oils and balsamic vinegars at The Crescent Olive, or hunt for vintage finds and home décor inside Charlie’s Southern Rustiques, located in a former Sinclair gas station.
There are plenty of other locally owned businesses along the way, so leave yourself a little time to wander into anything that catches your eye.
Visiting in September? Stop by the Farmers Market
If you’re following this itinerary during the first few Saturdays in September, add the Travelers Rest Farmers Market to your morning.
The 2026 summer market takes place at Trailblazer Park on Saturday mornings through September 19. Local vendors bring everything from fresh produce, meats, breads, and cheeses to pastries and handmade goods, with live music adding to the atmosphere.
September 19 also brings the market’s Season Finale & Apple Fest, making it an especially fun weekend to visit and get an early taste of fall.
Greenville Gateway Local Tip: Travelers Rest is a great place to park once and spend several hours on foot. Trailblazer Park, Main Street, and the Swamp Rabbit Trail can all be worked into the same outing, so you can experience several sides of town without spending the day driving from one stop to the next.
Spend Some Time on the Swamp Rabbit Trail
Next, make your way to the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail.
Rent bikes if you’d like to cover more ground, or simply walk a section of the trail. There is no need to turn it into an all-day excursion. Choose a comfortable stretch, enjoy the scenery, and then make your way back into town when you’re ready for lunch.
Stop for Lunch Before Heading Back
When you’re ready for lunch, Sidewall Pizza Company is known for handcrafted pizzas, while Farmhouse Tacos offers creative tacos and Southern-inspired dishes. Either makes an easy lunch stop before spending a little more time downtown.
Before calling it a day, make one last local stop for an afternoon treat. Pink Mama’s Ice Cream is a fun Travelers Rest favorite for homemade ice cream and makes an easy final stop before heading back to Greenville Gateway.
Keep Saturday Evening Simple
Once you’re back at Greenville Gateway, there is no need to make another set of plans. Cook dinner at your site, spend some time outside, catch up with neighbors, or enjoy a quieter evening after a full day away.
Sunday: Head Into the Blue Ridge Mountains
For Sunday, trade downtown streets for mountain roads with a trip to Caesars Head State Park.
Located along the Blue Ridge Escarpment, Caesars Head offers scenic overlooks, wilderness trails, and sweeping mountain views that make it worth the longer drive from Fountain Inn. Fall brings even more reasons to make the trip.
Start With the Scenic Drive
Have breakfast at your RV, pack some water and a picnic lunch, and head north toward the mountains.
As you get closer to Caesars Head, the roads become more winding and the scenery begins to change. Give yourself time to enjoy the drive rather than treating it simply as a way to reach the park.
Take in the Views at Caesars Head
Once you arrive, begin with the park’s overlooks. You can experience some impressive Blue Ridge scenery without making the entire visit about hiking, which makes Caesars Head a good option for different kinds of Sunday outings.
If you want a more active day, check the park’s trail information and choose a route that works for you. The official trails within the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area are rated advanced, so it is worth knowing what you’re getting into before setting out.
If you’d rather keep the day leisurely, spend your time at the overlooks, take photos, and enjoy the picnic you packed.
Visiting This Fall? Keep an Eye on the Sky
September brings another reason to visit Caesars Head. The park’s annual Hawk Watch coincides with fall migration, giving visitors a chance to spot raptors moving along the Blue Ridge Escarpment.
It’s one of those seasonal experiences that could easily be missed if you came only for the mountain views.
Greenville Gateway Local Tip: An earlier start is worth it on popular fall weekends. Day-use parking at Caesars Head is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and roadside parking isn’t permitted. Getting there before the busiest part of the day can make your visit much easier.
Make One More Seasonal Stop
Before making your way back toward Greenville Gateway, stop at Beechwood Farms in Marietta. This local produce market makes an easy addition to your drive down from the mountains and is a good place to pick up some seasonal produce and other farm-fresh finds for the week ahead before continuing toward Fountain Inn.
It gives you one more taste of the Upstate before wrapping up your Sunday and heading back to Greenville Gateway.
Prefer a Weekend Closer to Greenville Gateway?
Not every weekend has to be filled with plans. When you’re staying for a few weeks or months, there is also something nice about having nowhere you need to be.
Sleep in and make breakfast at your RV. Take the dog for a walk, spend a few hours in Fountain Inn, cook dinner outside, or catch up with neighbors around the community. You could also choose just one destination from this itinerary and save the others for another weekend.
That flexibility is part of what makes an extended stay in the Upstate different from visiting for a short vacation. There is time to get to know the area gradually while still enjoying the routines of everyday life.
